By the way: Did you know that wood-based materials are one of the main components of our furniture? Wood is the origin of the concept of sustainability. Back in the 18th century, when wood was an essential raw material for construction and heating, high consumption in industrial cities led to large-scale deforestation. Against this backdrop, Hans Carl von Carlowitz, chief mining administrator in Saxony, developed the principle of sustainability in his book on the economy of forests in 1713. His idea: only cut down as many trees as can grow back. This idea marked the beginning of the success story of sustainability, which continues to shape us today.
